Spirit Sands and Devil’s Punch Bowl: A Photo Essay

The Spirit Sands has always been one of my favourite trails in Manitoba. Nestled alongside the Assiniboine River, the boreal forest meets the desert. On this mid-April visit, there was a beautiful sunny day. We haven’t quite transitioned fully into spring yet and there was lots of contrast between snow and sand and the bright blue sky.

The Devil’s Punch Bowl offers a dramatic change in scenery. As the sun was setting lower and the shadows growing longer, the golden hour light began to meet with the vibrant blue-green waters.
